Your front door mat is a key piece in welcoming guests to your home. It’s one of the first things any visitor will see so you want to ensure you make a good first impression.

How to choose the right doormat 

Mats for doors can be placed inside or outside depending on the material of the mat, its intended use and your personal preference.
When choosing a doormat it’s important to think about how it’s going to be used and where you want it to go.
Does it need to stand up to heavy foot traffic at the front door? Will it be outside in the rain? Does it need to clean off muddy boots or is it more for aesthetic appeal?

Doormats for outside

When you’re looking for a doormat to go outside you need something that will withstand the elements.
We highly recommend our all weather Border loop mats. Available in two colours, classic beige and black, these mats are made from tough polypropylene making them perfect for areas that might get quite wet during a downpour.
Highly moisture resistant and sturdy they are terrific for high traffic areas and you can even hose them down when they need a clean.
Some materials like jute are not recommended for use outdoors as they can deteriorate if exposed to large amounts of water and direct sunlight.
However if you have a well-covered outdoor area such as a large patio and the mat is not likely to be affected by moisture or direct sunlight a Jute doormat is still an option for you. 

Doormats for inside front door

Having a doormat inside your front door is a great way to clean off any excess dirt and mud from your shoes as well as provide a soft, welcoming first step into your home.
Choosing to place your doormat inside allows you to select from softer materials which wouldn’t hold up well when placed outside in the weather.
Our jute doormats and Armadillo entrance mats are our favourite for door mats inside the front door.
Jute doormats are available in a range of weave styles such as Herringbone and Panama. They are also available in larger floor rug and hall runner sizes.
Armadillo entrance mats are high quality hemp mats made using fair trade practices. They are available in both natural and charcoal colourways, as well as several styles and sizes. 

These inside indoor mats can also be a great choice for a kitchen or laundry mat too. 

Doormat size 

While most doormats come in a standard size of 60cm x 90cm we do also carry a few pieces for larger doorways.
If you have a reguar width door a, standard size mat will be fine however, if you are looking for a doormat for a double door or a generous entrance way you might want to consider a longer size. Several of our Armadillo Entrance Mats are available in lengths up to 140cm.
If you need something larger again you could consider a small jute runner rather than a traditional doormat. 

Jute Doormats 

Our jute front door mats are goodweave certified and available in three different weave styles.
They all have a natural and chemical-free latex rubber backing to help strengthen the mat prolonging its life and giving added durability. 

Herringbone - this traditional tessellating pattern is often seen in high-end parquetry flooring and tiling designs. See the Herringbone doormat.
Panama - This piece has a classic “woven” look resembling that of a basketweave. See the Panama doormat.
Boucle - A popular textile trend, the Boucle jute doormat features a knotted style quite often seen in larger sisal or jute living room rugs. The Boucle door mat is available in natural and blond colourways. 

Armadillo Doormats 

When looking for mats for doors you can’t go past the quality of Armadillo.
Internationally known for their style and fair trade practices, Armadillo mats are available in a range of designs. All Armadillo mats are recommended for inside use only.

Nest Entrance Mat - Available in both Charcoal and Natural this classic hemp doormat is suitable for most home styes. It has a lower profile than some Armadillo mats and is available in two sizes. 0.6x1m or 0.5x1.4m.

River Entrance Mat - This mat has a really beautiful braided style weave. Available in three sizes, 0.6x1m, 0.8x1.2m or 0.5x1.4m ideal for larger doorways or for use as a kitchen mat. See the River Entrance Mat.

Sahara Entrance Mat - Available in two colour ways, Charcoal and Natural this beautiful mat is finished with tassels at either end. It does have a higher profile so we do recommend checking the clearance of your door if it needs to open over your doormat.
