Begin by thinking about how you like to cook as well as what you and your family enjoy eating.  Establishing this clearly will help to form a basic idea of the type of appliances, surfaces, sinks, equipment and storage you will need to allow for

choosing a style

Once you have an idea of what you need to include in your new kitchen, its time to choose a style and design. Ideally this should reflect the tone and character of the rest of your home. If you do need help with ideas, look through magazines, brochures as well as the internet, then add cuttings to your wish list to help with final decisions

Consider using lots of deep drawers, instead of cupboards to make things easier to see at a glance.  When planning, establish the depth you need for your cookware and if you have small children, consider ‘soft-close’ runners which prevent the drawers from slamming

A visit to a kitchen show-room, armed with your wish list and basic floor plan measurements will allow a rough plan to be developed, giving you a general price and style guide. Usually a consultant will need to pay a visit to your home to carry out exact measurements for a formal quotation
