photo candles
Plain glass jar candles are easy to find, often affordable, and perfect for personalising as a gift or for your home.
Simply take your favourite family photos or those from a special holiday and create your own 'printed' labels – either in colour or black and white.
For a gift candle, it's also worth making a cardboard circle to protect the top, this also gives a space for writing a special message.
You will need:
• 1 x glass jar candle
• printed copy of a photo (don't use the original)
• Jo Sonja’s All Purpose Sealer (available from art shops)
• 1 x small square black cardboard
• 1 x small square scrap booking paper
• 1 x 25mm soft paint brush
• 1 x Uni-ball Signo white pen (available Kikki-K)
• double sided tape
How to:
1. Cut out the printed copy of the photo and apply a thin layer of All Purpose Sealer to the back. Also apply a thin layer to the jar where the photo will go. Gently stick the photo to the jar and smooth out any air bubbles.
2. To make the card top, cut 2 circles to fit neatly on top of the candle, within the jar, I used one circle cut from black card and one for the underside from scrap booking paper. Stick the card pieces together, right sides facing out using double sided tape. Punch a hole in the centre for the wick.
3. Write your message around the black card as well as on the photo using the white Uni-ball pen.
Safety tip:
The card will need to be removed before lighting the candle.
