love birds

I’m seeing a lot of white porcelain birds as decorator accessories this season and am just loving the look. Accents ‘borrowed’ from nature add life and fun to a room and cuties like these look so sweet grouped along a shelf or dotted here and there around the house.

You can of course find the expensive varieties in upmarket design stores, but why not try making some ‘faux porcelain’ birdies like mine at a fraction of the price.

I found these guys made from resin in a discount store for just a few dollars each.  They started life fairly brightly coloured but after a makeover in white, I think they look very sophisticated. Each was given 3 coats of white acrylic paint (I like to use Jo Sonja's Artists' Colours) as well as a coat of clear varnish.

These birdies now have a chic look and I think they’re definitely singing a new tune.
