Getting started:

Find a suitcase, vintage styles are perfect.

To support the floors, cut lengths of wood to the depth of the base. You can fix them with glue or else use Velcro which means they are removable and makes pack up time easier.

Place your suitcase on top of a large piece of paper and trace around it. This will give you a basic template for your boards. You may need to adjust the sizing to fit neatly inside the lid and base. Trace this onto core flute and cut out with a craft knife or box cutter.

Now that you have your boards cut to size you can start decorating them!

Sky

You only need one board for the sky, make one side day using blue papers and clouds and on the reverse you can create a night sky using black paper, stars and a moon.

Race Track

Extra materials:

Tracing paper
Green felt
Chequered felt
Black cardboard

How to:

1. Draw the track onto the board. Once you are happy with the shape trace it onto tracing paper.

2. Cover the board in black cardboard.

3. Cut the shape of the grass areas from the tracing paper. This is now your template to cut the felt. Pin each piece to your felt and cut around it.

4. Lay the felt onto the board and glue in place.

5. Cut strips from your chequered felt and glue these around the edge of the race track.

Airport

Extra materials:

Green felt
Chequered felt
Black and grey cardboards
Shoe box
Acetate

How to:

Background
1. Download the background template, enlarge it to fit your case and trace it onto the board.

2. To create the windows in the airport we used pieces of acetate, commonly available at newsagents and art shops. This gives them the glossy finish of glass.

Base
1. Place the shoe box onto the board and trace around it in the position where the hanger will go. Now you can draw the runway and helipad with the space you have left on the board.

2. As with the race track trace the grass areas onto tracing paper and create a template to cut the felt. Cover the runway, hanger and helipad areas with cardboard.

3. Cut the felt to size and glue onto the board adding strips of chequered felt along the edge of the runway and helipad.

4. Cut a large opening in the size of the shoe box and cover in paper. Don't stick the hanger down, it's easier to pack away if it's loose.
