felt and fabric decorations
These cute, hand-made felt and fabric shapes make unique decorations to hang around the house – loop them over a door handle, a drawer knob or even group them among a vase of twigs for a lasting alternative to flowers.
They're fun too as gifts but for something extra special, try filling them with dried lavender and hang them from a coat hanger or place them in drawers to keep the moths at bay.
And don't forget, at Christmas time make some decorated with a little extra sparkle so you can hang them from the tree.
You will need:
• paper shape template (download here)
• felt or fabric
• craft polyester stuffing needle and thread
• sharp scissors
• buttons and beads for decoration
• pins
How to:
1. Print out the template and cut out the shapes.
2. Pin the shapes to the fabric before cutting. You will need two identical fabric shapes per decoration.
3. Stitch on any buttons or beads before placing the two pieces of fabric together.
4. Using plain or blanket stitch, work around the shape leaving a small gap to place in the stuffing. The flat end of a wooden skewer works well here for pushing right into the corners.
5. Attach a length of cotton looped twice for hanging – more buttons and beads can be threaded on to this for added decoration.
