A dash of colour is what’s needed to jazz up plain bed sheets and for under $20, who can argue at the price? Just pick up a few basic supplies and lengths of ribbon at around $1 per metre and either match the colours to your room or make up a new theme for Summer!

You will need:

    • • haberdashery ribbon - I used grosgrain and satin ribbons
    • • white or coloured cotton thread
    • • Vliesofix or Heat ‘N’ Seal (see supplier info below)
    • • plain cotton pillow slips and flat sheet
    • • scissors
    • • iron
    • • sewing machine

    How to:

    1. Cut the Vliesofix into long lengths - not quite as wide as the ribbon you are using

    2. Place the Vliesofix paper side up on to the back of the ribbon and attach it using an iron on a cotton setting

    3. Position the ribbon onto the pillow slip or sheet (pins can help) then remove the backing paper a little at a time and iron the top side of the ribbon to heat set it

    4. Now the ribbon is secure, it’s easy to sew. Just run the stitching down either side and neaten off the ends

    5. I used white cotton to contrast with the ribbon, but you may prefer to match the colours exactly

QT quick tip ....

when making the bed with a top sheet, lay it face down so when you fold it back over the blanket or quilt, the right side will be showing
